Remember the ironed bead creations of yesteryear? Well, I’ve got something exciting to share with you. A fun and creative project that’s even better. Are there any little girls who don’t adore arts & crafts? Some projects are easier to do than others and of course, I love it when my children can create things without much help from me. They tend to be more creative when I keep my nose out of their business. Recently we were given the opportunity to review Super Beads from Zirrly. We choose the Mega Pack. Check this out!
Zirrly is pretty neat company. Did you know they’ve been around since 1956? Their aim is to focus on helping children develop their fine motor skills and imagination through the use of delightful craft kits.
Super Beads are awesome. They fuse together with a few spritzes of water just like the old style beads you used to heat with the iron. Did you catch that, with Super Beads there is no iron required! Fairly young children can work with these beads all on their own. The beads are small so they should be kept away from babies and pets. But even my 3 year old was able to create her own special projects all on her own.
The beads come in a multitude of colors. You also get little plates with pegs to help you line up your designs. They also come with templates that you place behind to plates to help you create bead creations designed by Zirrly.
The Mega Pack comes with more than 4500 beads and 20 design templates. They included not one but TWO spray bottles as well. You’ll find a little tool to help you lift the creations from the pegboards as well. There are four different design templates including a cupcake, elephant, turtle, and apple. You’ll get five of each of these. I think this kit is perfectly designed to use with groups of children. Since everyone can work together at once.
Although there are suggested designs contained in the kit, there is plenty of open creative opportunities available here. After my older daughter (7) created a cupcake she went to town making creations of her own design. My 3-year-old gave the design templates a good try and in the end, she found them just a bit too tough for her, but then went on to make her own projects too.
Once a design is complete your child will spray it with water and let it sit for about an hour. Once it dried the project can be peeled back from the pegboard. If you accidentally break it have no fear, put it back on the board, spay again, and try to pull it off later.
Joyanna, who is 7, was just thrilled to get to do these projects and she was quite successful with them. I gave her a little bowl to spill the beads into for sorting. That made it much easier for her to hunt down the exact colors that she needed. After a few minutes of hard work, we came to realize there is a ride side up to these beads. There is one end that is a bit thicker. You’ll want to place the beads on the pegboard with that side up. You’ll find the beads end up holding together a lot better if you are careful about which way you place the beads.
I wholeheartedly recommend this kit. There is such creative possiblities here. Plus the children can be very independent. What a fantastic product. I’m eyeing the Super Beads Jewelry Set. I think the kit could make a great gift or even a craft activity for a party or co-op class. Head on over and visit Zirrly on their website, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube.
