My children LOVE to paint! I mean they BIG HEART SMILEY FACE SQUEAL WITH DELIGHT kind of love. I enjoy indulging them when I can. However, sometimes we just need mess-free art, so I was thrilled to receive Thin Stix Creativity Pack from The Pencil Grip, Inc. to review.
When the box arrived, there were lots of shouts of hooray! This Creativity Box comes with TWENTY-FOUR colors including “Metalix!” If you want a well-stocked art cabinet, you definitely need twenty-four colors. The first thing my 7-year-old daughter had to do was test out every color!
Thin Stix are actually paint sticks that work a lot like markers except they are a solid tempura paint. This Creativity Pack comes with 12 classic colors, six neon colors, and 6 Metalix colors. I wrote all about how these work in my last review of the six-pack.
The glory of these Thin Stix lies in not only how bright, colorful, and just like paint the are, but also in how fast they dry. Your child’s painting will dry in 90 seconds or less. They work very well for layering colors too! No more mixing things up and ending up with a yucky brown mess! That makes things tremendously less frustrating for the child who can’t wait between layers of paint for drying.
Plus it is impossible to spill these paints. It’s no muss, no fuss, and no mess. Clean-up is a breeze! The most you may have to do is wipe down the table when through. They are very washable. My three year old dropped a stix on her pants and left a little smudge. After going through the laundry, you’d never know.
My three-year-old found the best use for this pack of Thin Stix. She has entered a stage where she is somewhat obsessed with drawing letters. Particularly the ones in her name. It just thrills her to be able to “write” like everyone else in the family. The chunky shape of these Thin Stix are the perfect size for her little fingers that are still grasping the muscle control needed for writing. Every day for weeks, during our school time, she pulls a chair, the container of Thin Stix, and a stack of paper up to the table where we all work on school together. She then proceeds to tell me words or letters to draw on the paper so that she can trace over them herself. As a result, her letter recognition and writing ability have really increased during this review period. I credit it to her love of these Thin Stix.
We love the Thin Stix and the original thicker Qwick Stix. I think this is one of the best and most versatile art products on the market. Since we were introduced to them a couple of years ago, I’ve made it habit to buy them as gifts for birthdays and holiday for all of the children in our lives. They are creative, mess-free, and economical so they make the absolute perfect gift for any child.
